This week is the launch of the second group of almost thirty 18- 24 year olds taking part in the Kiln from around Christchurch. The Kiln is part of the Diocese strategic plan to focus on young leaders.
Phil Trotter says the Kiln group will meet six weekly with a curriculum they have developed to help young leaders to grow in their skills for taking on leadership roles within the church. The course starts off broadly and then as the leaders develop they can specialise into the areas of their passion and skills. He says there are numerous areas the leaders can focus on, such as strategic leadership, children's ministry, worship, social justice or youth ministry. The course was first launched two and half years ago and of the forty people who started that course , around thirty completed the programme and are now beginning to focus on their particular areas of leadership. The participants have to be involved in their parish with their area of leadership and the Kiln model is to strengthen parishes by providing such high quality training, Phil Trotter says.
Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams will speak to the Kiln members when he visits Christchurch later in the year.
