Media release from Craighead Diocesan School Board of Proprietors Chairperson Phillipa Guerin

26 Mar 2012

A special meeting of the Board of Proprietors last night considered an interim engineering report which indicated strengthening work will be required. It was decided the 42 girls boarding in Shand House would be moved out today as a precautionary measure.
Shand House was built in six stages between 1875 and 1940. The Len Home boarding wing built in 1990 is not affected by this decision. The school will be working with the parents of affected girls to find alternative accommodation until term ends on Thursday of next week. Offers from people able to assist with home hosting would be appreciated.
The day school will continue to operate as normal throughout this period, with classes, activities and administration from Shand House relocated within the school.
A full engineering report is due within the next few weeks, and the Board expects to have a clear view of the way forward by the beginning of next term.
