As with everyone in the city we are thankful that last night’s 4.7 magnitude aftershock appears to have caused no serious harm or injury.

Once again, it is prudent that we take measures to ensure buildings continue to be safe to occupy. We ask that all parishes within the Diocese:

  1. Visually inspect your Church buildings and report any concerns to CPT, especially for those parishes close to the epicentre (just west of the Lyttelton Road Tunnel).
  2. Check vicarages for signs of damage and report any concerns.

Wind Warning:

In Canterbury, gale or severe gale North Westerlies are predicted in the short term weather forecast, followed by heavy and possibly thundery rain over the coming weekend.

The gale force winds may cause damage to roofs and trees, so we ask that all parishes keep an eye on their buildings over the next few days and report any damage to CPT, especially for any potential insurance claims.
