Information from Bishop Peter

No Rules

There are no limits on numbers, or rules about communion, touching, singing, children’s ministry, or serving refreshments. So from a “rules” perspective our church life can be normal. All ministry can begin again. We can shake hands at the Peace, and at the door of the church. Cool!

When you attend our church family life gatherings, please know your feelings and any concerns you have will be respected. Some will wish to jump straight in with a hug, while others may remain more cautious. Please consider not hugging during the winter months, and always ask before hugging being mindful of those either vulnerable or more anxious.

Let’s stay healthy and kind

Please feel free to use hand sanitiser when you arrive. Remember, if you don’t want physical contact, just say so. Please respect one another’s feelings on this. Be kind.

When offered communion, you are perfectly at liberty to receive only in one kind, and not sip from the communal cup.

Let’s continue to be healthy. If you are unwell, even a slight cold, please stay away. You may feel you’re fine to carry on, but others, nervous or at risk, are vulnerable.

Let’s stay vigilant

While you don’t need to record your name when you come to church, you are still encouraged to keep a diary of your own personal movements including using the NZ COVID Tracer app.

Thanks be to God for this national achievement! Thank you for all you have been doing in your churches so that we have been part of the team of 5 million.

Religious events and ceremonies at Alert level 1

There is no limit on the number of people who can attend a religious event or ceremony at Alert Level 1.

Stay safe at Alert Level 1

At Alert Level 1, we still need to play it safe. We all need to be ready in case COVID-19 comes back into the community.

To be ready at Alert Level 1:

  • maintain good hygiene
  • stay home if you’re sick
  • get tested if you have cold or flu symptoms
  • keep track of where you’ve been and who you’ve seen.

Jacinda’s 10 Golden Rules for Alert Level 1

    1. If you’re sick, stay home. Don’t go to work or school. Don’t socialise.
    2. If you have cold or flu symptoms call your doctor or Healthline and make sure you get tested.
    3. Wash your hands. Wash your hands. Wash your hands.
    4. Sneeze and cough into your elbow, and regularly disinfect shared surfaces.
    5. If you are told by health authorities to self-isolate you must do so immediately.
    6. If you’re concerned about your wellbeing or have underlying health conditions, work with your GP to understand how best to stay healthy.
    7. Keep track of where you’ve been and who you’ve seen to help contact tracing if needed. Use the NZ COVID Tracer app as a handy way of doing this.
    8. Businesses should help people keep track of their movements by displaying the Ministry of Health QR Code for contact tracing.
    9. Stay vigilant. There is still a global pandemic going on. People and businesses should be prepared to act fast to step up Alert Levels if we have to.
    10. People will have had different experiences over the last couple of months. Whatever you’re feeling — it’s okay. Be kind to others. Be kind to yourself.
