Let’s explore together the history of the gospel in our own backyard.
Please promote this to your leadership teams. A wonderful opportunity to share time and learning together.
The story of the Gospel in this region is important, and often neglected. We do not live and minister in a bubble of just the present. Knowing the history informs the present and can make a very significant and positive contribution to the future.
The hikoi will give an introduction to the story of the gospel here in Otautahi, especially in the early days of Maori / European contact and European settlement, with the aim of constructively influencing both our present context and future developments. The Spirit of God is at work in our region, we aim to better understand the work of the Spirit in the past, so we can be more a part of the Spirit’s work now and in the days to come.
At each of the three sites we visit, we will be in the hands of our hosts, Anglicans, Methodists and Catholics. They will use the time as they wish, they will tell their story, they will pose whatever questions they wish.
Outline for the day.
9.00 am Rendezvous at St Marys Pro-Cathedral, 373 Manchester St. Depart in the bus. Some car parking is available on site, more is available in surrounding streets.
9.30 am Arrive at Tuahiwi
11.00 am Depart for Rehua Marae, Springfield Rd
11.30 am Arrive at Rehua Marae
1.00 pm Lunch in the wharekai at Rehua. Please bring some finger food to contribute to a shared meal.
2.00 pm Depart for the Basilica, Barbadoes St.
2.15 pm Arrive at the Basilica, then return to St Mary’s
4.00 pm Poroporoaki – summation of the day, farewell comments, thanks to hosts.
