Remembering Thomas Merton
Monday, 10 December marks the 50th anniversary of the untimely death of the Trappist monk, Thomas Merton in Bangkok, Thailand. As part of a number of events celebrated worldwide, Christ’s College’s Centre for Ethics and Spirituality invites you to join the Christchurch Chapter of the International Thomas Merton Society in a commemorative event.
Thomas Merton, the son of Christ’s College Old Boy Owen Merton, is one of the most influential spiritual leaders. His relatives are commemorated around Christ’s College and elsewhere.
Starting at 6pm, please join us for this event at the Waimairi Cemetery, 195 Grahams Road, Burnside, where members of the Merton Family are buried.
This will be followed by prayer and refreshments in the Narthex at St Mary’s Pro-Cathedral (373 Manchester St) for approximately an hour.
