Christopher’s contribution to the future of Aotearoa New Zealand is huge, positive and constructive, and will be long lasting.

We are delighted that Christopher has accepted our invitation to visit our city and to speak to us, drawing on his experience and his hopes and dreams for this nation.

As Minister for Treaty of Waitangi Negotiations from 2008 to 2017, Christopher Finlayson completed an unprecedented number of settlements with iwi. In 2012 alone, Parliament passed more Treaty legislation than it had over the previous twenty years. Christopher Finlayson gained unique insight into the elements of successful negotiations and was involved in developing legal innovations to reach settlements. He has valuable insights into the essential components of settlements, considering in particular themes such as natural resources, co-governance and legal personality. He also has a special understanding of the impact of the process and outcomes of the Treaty settlement on the relationship between Māori and the Crown.

There will be an opportunity for participants to contribute toward a koha for our guest and our hosts at Ara.
