Diocese Youth Rep’s for Synod
Nominations for Diocesan Youth Representatives for Synod 2024 are now open.
There are 12 Dio. Youth Reps spots are available for people aged between 16-24 years old for this three-year Synod period (2024-2026).
Since the Council of Jerusalem (Acts) the church has gathered in Synod to determine the best way forward in the Holy Spirit and the wisdom of the gathered congregation. This is your opportunity to bring the voice of young people to Synod and to participate in shaping the future of the church.
There are two ways of representing the youth of the diocese at Synod.
You can be elected as the Dio. Youth Rep, with speaking and voting rights or you can be a Parish Youth Rep. with speaking rights only.
To be a Dio. Youth Rep. get someone to nominate you (i.e. Youth Minister, Young Adults Leader, or Vicar) and you could be heading to Synod from 5-7 September 2024. To be a Parish Youth Rep you must be nominated and selected by your parish. Speak to your Youth Minister, Young Adults Leader, or Vicar about this and you too could be heading to Synod.
Nominations for the Dio Youth Rep Roles need to be emailed to Sammy by Friday 24th May with a blurb of why you want to be a youth rep and what you would bring to the role.
Voting will then take place at The New Thinker’s Banquet on Monday 27th May for these twelve positions. Voting will take place by youth/youth leaders in ministry units voting on the nominated candidates (the number of votes per ministry unit to be the number of vacancies required to be filled). There can only be one Dio. Youth representative from a parish/school/ministry unit. Unfilled positions can’t / shouldn’t be filled from the floor on the night of the election. The election will occur by secret ballot in writing with each person nominated required to poll over 50% in order to be eligible to be declared elected.
If you have any questions, please contact Sammy by email or phone 022 0215401. The Facebook Event can be seen here.
