Victory Memorial School Reunion
November 23, 2018 - November 25, 2018
Victory Memorial School, in St Albans, Christchurch, closed in the 1960s. Former pupils, who retain fond memories of their primary days, are organising a reunion this Friday November 23-Sunday November 25.
The school began in 1884 as the St Matthew’s Church day school and was re-named 100 years ago to commemorate Christchurch lives lost in World War I, a tribute from the Diocese. By then a new school building was begun in Springfield Road, remaining until 1966. The building itself was demolished after the 2011 earthquake.
More than one hundred ex-pupils have been contacted, with a large number intending to attend the reunion the weekend after Show Weekend. Organisers have collected photos and memorabilia, and even a rare coloured film of the school’s sports day.
It’s the school’s first reunion for more than 30 years.
