Christchurch Bishop Paul Martin, SM, is looking forward to working with the new Anglican Bishop of Christchurch, Bishop Peter Carrell, who was ordained on February 9.
Bishop Martin, who was at the ordination service at Christchurch Boys’ High School, said that the celebration was a very uplifting and inspiring occasion.
“It was a privilege to be a part of the liturgy celebrating the ordination of Bishop Peter. I look forward to working with him in the future as we work together to spread the Good News across our dioceses of Canterbury, Westland and Chatham Islands.”
Bishop Martin read a prayer at the ceremony, the text of which was: “United in prayer, we turn to you O God, knowing that you are calling us, your people, into deeper unity and experience
of faith.
“As your people united in Christ across Canterbury, Westland and Chatham Islands, heal all that keeps us from the unity you desire for us. Gathered today with your servant and our brother Peter, strengthen in him his gift of faithful leadership that his
ministry may serve to unite people of every church community,
bringing deep and lasting unity among all who seek you in this place.”
