Churches in Christchurch are combining to deliver an inter-church non-denominational service of prayer and hope on Thursday 21 March, 6pm at Latimer Square, Christchurch Central.
A spokesperson for the Te Raranga group, King’s Church Pastor Ken Shelley, says the gathering is to show solidarity with our Christchurch Muslim community. “We will pray for those who lost their lives, for the injured, their families and loved ones,” says Shelley.
“We will also give thanks for the bravery of the first responders and the many people who continue to support those affected by this tragedy, says Anglican Christ Church Cathedral’s Dean, the Very Rev’d Lawrence Kimberley.
Mike Stopforth, Director of the Catholic Bishop’s Pastoral Office adds, “All are welcome. Please bring a fern frond, if possible, as these will be used in an act of remembrance.”
Te Raranga, the Churches Forum, was formed after the earthquake to consolidate churches’ recovery and outreach efforts. The team includes Anglicans Catholics, Baptists, Adventists, Pentecostals, Methodists, Presbyterians, Quakers, and other Independents.
